What I Learned From Teaching Others About PR

Full.Blue_1

I got my big teaching moment last week. Our friends at Seed Sumo in Bryan, Texas invited me to speak to their 7 startup teams last week.

Before I get into my day at Seed Sumo, I just want to acknowledge these incredibly bright minds who are producing some really innovative concepts. My hope is that all of them are wildly successful, widely-recognizable companies in just a few months. I

Gilmore Girls Reunion ATX TV Festival 2015

This weekend I had the opportunity to attend The Gilmore Girls reunion at the ATX TV Festival. Without contest, this has been my absolute favorite series to watch and revisit over the past decade and the media coverage leading up to the reunion did an incredible job of reminding the fans why we loved the show and its characters so much. If you haven

Key Tips for any Public Relations Writer

Writing for public relations is never easy. Writing for public relations is not only a representation of yourself, but a statement of an organization and its mission. The writing has to be imagined in a variety of mediums: a Twitter status, a moving banner on televised news, the side column of a newspaper. Every word is being documented, and every word counts in an ever accelerating world.

I recently read an article by William Zinsser on PR Daily recommending that writers ought to make a story personable to catch the eyes of a speeding citizen. Adding key lines that will feed into the imagination of a passerby and trigger a response that will make them say,

Seedling Welcomes Our Summer Intern

My name is Tiffany Lin and I am a junior at The University of Texas at Austin. I am thrilled to intern with Seedling Communications this summer and look forward to all that I expect to learn. I was fortunate enough to come across Seedling Communications on the Alan Scott chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Facebook page, and I was doubly fortunate to have been selected as their new summer intern.

I was born and raised in Houston, TX and I can honestly say I have enjoyed the (delicious) move to Austin. Exploring this city has been a fantastic experience, especially exploring the local food culture.

I am excited at the multiple options public relations has to offer, from crisis management to expanding brand awareness, and look forward to learning more about the field this summer. During my time with Seedling Communications, I hope to refine my social media and writing skills and continue to build my network.

PR Should Be a No-Brainer for Startups

Every business, event or brand has the potential to skyrocket from a well-crafted public relations strategy. Many startups fail to recognize how much of a game changer public relations can be when it comes to gaining awareness and surpassing their competitors.

The world of startups is high-risk, exhilarating and nerve-wracking all at the same time. Once you

Introducing Ashley Bowen, Our Spring Intern!

Hello, my name is Ashley Bowen; and I will be interning with the Seedling Communications team this spring! I am originally from Arlington, Texas and have lived in Austin for almost two years. I have always wanted to live in Austin, and can truly say it has not only been a great decision, but a great experience! I have sincerely enjoyed the people, culture and food of the eccentric city I call home!

I am currently a senior at Texas State University pursuing a major in public relations with a minor in business. After a seven year work hiatus following my high school graduation, I decided to go back to school. Over the past few years, I have learned valuable skills in writing, editing and most importantly, communicating.

I learned about Seedling Communications through my school chapter of PRSSA (Public Relations Student Society of America) when the internship opportunity was posted. In preparation for a career in communications, I know working with Seedling Communications will be a good opportunity to start my career.

As an intern, I plan to enhance my writing skills, professional communication and networking capabilities. I intend to gain knowledge and practical experience that will guide my journey to a prosperous career in public relations. I look forward to the opportunity to build relationships and learn more about the field of public relations this semester.

NeedTo.com Celebrated Labor Day on FOX

On Monday we went to FOX with NeedTo.com founder, Wade Floyd, to talk with the morning crew on Good Day Austin. Wade spoke about NeedTo.com and his goal to end unemployment in Austin. We loved spending our Labor Day there and sharing the idea that in America everyone should have opportunities to go to work each day. The concept is incredible and we hope to continue following their success across the country.

Common Social Media Mistakes

Nowadays almost everyone uses social media to connect with friends, family, and businesses. For friends and family, things are simpler and it is merely a way to stay in touch. But, for businesses, there is greater opportunity and more pressure to be connected to your followers and to promote your brand.

Companies can potentially make many mistakes when it comes to sharing their brand online, so we thought we
